Expansion of wastewater project to remove aging and failing septic tanks and package plants on the shores of Lake Okeechobee and the Caloosahatchee River. Local City and County Government through a Public Works Authority has instituted a mandatory hookup policy to ensure future revenues and decrease dependence on outside funding for the future as well as further protection of Lake Okeechobee the Caloosahatchee River and the Northern Everglades waters. This project is located in a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern, as designated by the Governor, pursuant to Chapter 288.0656.

Project Description:
Construction of sewer system to service to correctional facility under construction and to allow for new business, neither can hookup without this additional expansion and eliminate failing septic tanks and failing package plants along Lake Okeechobee and the Caloosahatchee River. Glades County wastewater improvements will allow for the correctional facility to continue to house prisioners of the State of Florida as well as capacity for the ICE facility capacity increases.

Describe, specifically, how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings:
Constructing new processing plants and with local sewer hook-ups by residents and businesses will eliminate the ground pollutants caused by failing septic tanks and old/out dated failing package plants. Through new treatment technology, disposal of effluent through new FDEP approved wetland disposal system. 75 lbs per day removal of suspended solids. 3.0 tons per year of phosphorus will be removed when system is completed. Nitrogen will also be removed but it cannot be calculated nor quantified at this time.
