Project Description: |
Approximately one half of the homes in Belvedere Homes/Golfview Heigths (about 571 single family and 16 multi-family units) are still using septic tank and drainfield systems. In addition, since Golfview Heights is one of the lowest areas in the CRA, this area is subject to frequent flooding, even during relatively small storm events. Partially treated wastewater discharges into the ground water table via exfiltration through the septic drainfieds and during even minor storm events, this effluent can seep into surface waters, causing an environmental and health hazard. Therefore, this project will provide a centralized and modern sanitary sewer system to serve the 587 households of the Belvedere Homes/Golfview Heights community. Furthermore, the project will contribute to the Lake Worth Lagoon Restoration and the Chain of Lakes Restoration by reducing the amount of pollutants that is currently being seeped into the groundwater to the canals into the Chain of Lakes and the Lake Worth Lagoon via the antiquated septic tank system |
