Statewide Interest: |
Provides boating access to Waters of the State. Site is located on Intercoastal Waterway with access to Gulf of Mexico. In 2004 Florida passed California as having the most registered boaters in the nation. The Tampa Bay area has 122,523 registered boaters with 57,096 registered boats in Pinellas County. The Belleair Boat Ramp Park attendance of 596,000 annually is almost exclusively boaters. The site services boaters from out of county and even from out of state as visiting tourists bring their boats on vacation and experience our marine environment. A variety of craft use this boat ramp site, including pleasure boats, speed boats, sail boats, jet skis, canoe/kayaks and commercial and private fishing boats. Having boating access is an increasingly critical issue statewide as existing marinas and ramp sites are being sold to developers for dockominiums, condos or other development, effectively limiting public access to the water. The restoration of this centrally located facility also has statewide impact in terms of tourism and the associated economic impact of those tourists. |

Project Description: |
Complete redesign, redevelopment and construction of Belleair Boat Ramp Park resulting from the replacement of the Belleair Causeway Bridge and the reconstruction of 1.67 miles of roadway. The replacement bridge approach blocks all access to the existing park facility, which will be closed when bridge construction starts. A complete redesign of the facility has been engineered and includes moving three of the existing 6 boat ramps at the site, modifying parking for boat trailers and replacing the existing concession facility that has to be destroyed to accommodate the move in the boat ramps. Mitigation for bridge activities will also be included in the project. The Belleair Boat Ramp Park's attendance exceeds 596,000 users annually. |
