Trapnell/Mud Lake Road Looped Waterline Extension

Requester: Mayor Rick A. Lott Organization: City of Plant City

Project Title: Trapnell/Mud Lake Road Looped Waterline Extension Date Submitted 1/3/2008 3:54:54 PM

Sponsors: Storms

Statewide Interest:
This project will provide fire protection in areas where there currently is none. This will be accomplished with the installation of fire hydrants along the 1.5 mile water line extension. The extension will provide fire protection for both residents of the Plant City and Hillsborough County. The water line will provide the additional benefit of supplying people with water from the City thereby allowing for the removal of individual potable wells in the area serviced. It is the City's proposal that this water line provides both fire protection in an area that currently has none and provides an opportunity to close existing potable water wells and irrigation wells reducing the threat of pollution to the Florida aquifer.

Project Description:
The project consists of installing 1.5 miles of water line to provide a looped water service for residents in the southwest area of the City along Trapnell Road, Mud Lake Road and in the Walden Lake Subdivision. Currently, the City has 500 homes served by a single line in this area, in the event that the line becomes damaged these homes would not have fire protection. A looped water service would provide the necessary fire protection in the event the water line was damaged. While providing a looped water service, this extension will also extend the City's and County's ability to fight fires within areas of the county that currently do not have any fire protection.
