Project Description:
Long-term, cost efficient substance abuse treatment for adults in all Florida's counties. Phoenix House has demonstrated substantial success in reducing criminal recidivism through cost effective substance abuse treatment. One corrections study indicated that only 11.9% of Phoenix House completers recidivated two years after treatment. Phoenix House proposes to provide low cost substance abuse treatment for chronic substance abusers statewide - a treatment gap that is acknowledged by DCF, the Governor's Drug Control strategy and the largest federal study of drug use behavior. Effective substance abuse treatment preserves scarce resources within the health care, criminal justice, and child-welfare fields by preventing the inevidable penetration of these adults into these more costly service corridors.
