Project Description: |
The purpose of this request is to continue operation of Project CRAFT, a nationally recognized model for trades training and job placement resulting in lower recidivism rates delivered by Home Builders Institute, the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders. CRAFT takes students with little work history and prepares them for careers in the construction industry through a combination of classroom activities and community service construction projects. HBI training and job placement programs have successfully placed court-involved youth and adults, resulting in lower recidivism rates as suggested by published research. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Project CRAFT-St Petersburg will operates under the oversight of DJJ Circuit 6 with a daily capacity of 20 DJJ-involved youth. 2 training cycles completed over the course of a year will result in 40 youth earning HBIs PreApprenticeship Certificate, 90 percent of graduates will be successfully attached to the labor market or enter continued education/training. Significant reduction of recidivism rates of CRAFT graduates as compared to those of youth released from the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice without vocational training will be documented. |
