Project Description: |
Miami Shores Village is currently experiencing a 6% manpower vacancy rate in the Police Departments sworn force. We are having an extremely difficult time, or are unable to attract qualified individuals to send to the Police Academy. When we are able to hire new recruits, they get trained by our Department and then leave for other Departments where the officers have take home vehicles. We are anticipating the necessity of going to a take home car system in the coming year. We would require an additional 18 cars to accomplish this goal. Including lights, radios and equipment, each vehicle costs approximately $30,000 for a total of $540,000. |
|
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
We anticipate attracting qualified applicants to bring our Police Department up to full force, send them to the Police Academy, have them trained and keep them employed until they can become productive members of the force. We also anticipate that the establishment of a take home car system will allow us to retain current members of the force and keep them from going to other municipal police departments. |
