Project Description:
Project will provide state-of-the-art Everglades exhibits, interactive displays and a memorable video that will capture the attention of every visitor (approximately 500,000 to 600,000 visitors are expected annually), especially children, who willhave an enriching Everglades educational experience. Services will include educational indoor and outdoor Everglades educational classroom opportunities.
 
Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? Yes
If yes, which declared disaster? Hurricane Wilma destroyed the old Visitor Center as well as portions of the natural environment. The damage was so extreme that some of the public trails and buildings had to be closed to the public for safetly reasons. The US Fish and Wildlife Service is constructing a new Visitor Center and administrative offices with hurricane replacement funds that were allocated to the Refuge.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Each year more than 300,000 visitors come to the Refuge. It is projected that with the new building equipped with Everglades educational exhibits, interactive displays and memorable Everglades video that the visitors will increase to 500,000 to 600,000 annually. The project will support public outreach goals of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan.
