To preserve the original 1939 "Jacksonville Beach Colored School #144" school building that served the Duval and St. Johns County areas and to make the structure available to the citizens and visitors of Florida, especially the children, in the State of Florida, for programs/exhibits that will promote awareness and appreciation fo the twentieth century educational and cultural experience of African-Americans in the region and State.

Project Description:
To complete restoraton of the historical school and to develop a program and exhibits that will showcase the twentieth century educational and cultural experience of African-Americans in the region and state.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
1. Opening of the Rhoda L. Martin Cultural Heritage Center to the public within twelve months from receipt of funds. 2. Availability of a proram at the Center that will serve as an educational resource for citizens and visitors of Florida, and coordination with school districts in the State for student field trips, within twelve months from receipt of funds. 3. Development of one or more exhibits at the Center which will describe the twentieth century educational and cultural experience of African-Americans in the region and State.
