Project Description: |
On January 17, 2006 the Fourth Judicial Circuit JAC closed and law enforcement officers were required to utilize a call center for the intake of juveniles in police custody. This change has put a tremendous burden on the areas law enforcement community due to delays in detention decisions, causing many hours out of service time while waiting to get an appropriate disposition of custody. The current facility is out dated and not suited for retrofit to meet the growing needs of the community. The community partners want to re-establish a Juvenile Assessment Center in the Forth Judicial Circuit. A new state of the art building is needed to house all the necessary functions to facilitate the initial intake and screening of juvenile offenders as described in Florida statute 985.135, and to provide facilities for all of the ancillary services provided to this process to be collocated in one facility. |
