Project Description:
Through WIN, we use educational and recreational activities as a tool to create positive social change that leads Jacksonville�s at risk youth and young adults towards responsible citizenship. Aside from playing basketball, each participant will learn to value self-control, self-discipline, accepting responsibility for one�s actions, and conflict resolution skills through the Conflict Resolution counselor. Each participant will also focus on developing individual education, health/nutrition and Career plans through instruction and counseling. Each participant will receive an education/literacy assessment from an Florida Community College of Jacksonville (FCCJ) counselor. The counselor will arrange appropriate assistance according to individual�s need. This assessment will include GED program or vocational preparatory instructions for males 16-25. Suited for Success (which collaborates with 100 Black Men Jacksonville Chapter) will provide interview appropriate suits/accessories, comprehensive grooming services, career development and mentoring and training for males 18- 25 in need of employment. Jacksonville�s Sheriff�s Office will provide nightly security and one workshop regarding police and community relationships. In addition, all participants will participate in nutrition/health workshops through 4H. Lastly, Kessler Mentoring Connection will provide mentoring for all participants as well. Staff utilized for this program are the Program Director who oversees the program services; Athletic Director who oversees and coordinates the basketball activities; Two Youth Assistants help to guide youth during recreational activities and assistant Athletic Director; Four Referees regulate all games per age group; One Sheriff Deputy serves to regulate peace and safety on premises and other Volunteers from the Church and community will serve as directional guides on facility grounds from one building to the other and throughout each activity occurring on premises as there will be multiple activities throughout each night. Each position will be utilized for the 8 week period. All activities will be held in the Northside Church of Christ�s Family Life Center and Gymnasium.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Domain 1: Individual/Education Goal #1: Increase rewards/recognition for pro-social involvement Objective: 1a. 75% of male youth and young adults who attend the WIN program at least 3 days per week will have a satisfactory attendance and no more than three game ejections due to negative behavior for the duration of the program to be assessed by attendance record and behavior survey. Objective: 1b. 75% of male youth and young adults who attend the WIN program at least 3 days per week will display favorable attitudes and behavior assessed by the participant�s behavior survey. Goal #2: Increase healthy beliefs and clear standards for behavior Objective: 2a. 75% of target male youth and young adults will exhibit a significant increase in healthy beliefs and standards to be assessed by an administered pre and posttests. Goal #3: Increase academic, literacy or career status Objective: 3a. 75% of participants will receive an academic and/or career assessment to be assessed by workshop attendance, assessment results and/or pre and post surveys. 3b. 75% of illiterate participants will receive redirection counseling to be assessed by workshop attendance and survey. Domain 2: Community Goal #4: Decrease extreme social and economic deprivation Objective: 4a. Increase opportunities for participation as active community members of a productive community program to be assessed by attendance records and participants� survey. 4b. Increase opportunities for participants� to attend educational and career counseling and job training assessed by documented records of attendance. Goal #5: Increase social networks and support systems within the community Objective: 5a. Decrease the low neighborhood attachment and community disorganization assessed by pre and posttests. Domain 3: Health Goal #6: Increase participants� knowledge of nutrition/health Objective: 6a. 80% of participants will increase knowledge of nutrition/health assessed by pre and posttests.
