Many waters of Citrus County are of historic, ecologic and economic significance to Florida. These waterways are plagued by excessive organic sediments, aquatic plant growth and degraded water quality and recreational value.

Project Description:
The primary objectives of the Council are fish and wildlife habitat improvement, floating tussock management or removal and sand/sediment removal. The Council recommends $2.5 million for sediment removal and $1.5 million for tussock removal in Citrus County. The Council also recommends $400,000 for feasibility studies to address restoration issues for four water bodies in Hernando County.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Excessive aquatic plant growth will be curtailed by removing excessive organic sediment in appropriate areas of all waters in both counties. Native rooted emergent vegetation will reestablish in marsh-lake interface. Improved fish spawning and foraging by fish and wildlife, and navigation will be promoted. Removing sand/sediment and floating tussocks will preclude sediment build-up, improve navigation and maintain water quality.
