The Biscayne Bay Initiative will address high priority water resources restoration and enhancement issues in Biscayne Bay (an Outstanding Florida Water) and the Biscayne Bay watershed, through projects that will protect and improve Biscayne Bay for the public and the environment.

Project Description:
Various projects (see attached list) will be implemented toward achieving goals and objectives for Biscayne Bay ecological restoration and enhancement, water quality improvements and development of environmental assessment tools.

Describe, specifically, how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings:
This Program includes a suite of projects that will reduce loadings in several ways: by restoration of shoreline habitats that will reduce erosion and stormwater runoff; by removing loose sediment from canals leading directly to the Bay that otherwise get re-suspended and impact Bay water quality; and by continuing efforts to monitoring water quality in the Bay, identify pollutant loading sources and develop appropriate models for water quality and benthic habitats.
