Project Description:
Establish a pilot project to expand eligibility criteria for a new Redirections Program (Multi-systemic Therapy or MST) that is fully adherent to the treatment model and includes youth who have been adjudicated or convicted of a violent crime or have a history of such offenses. As stated in OPPAGA Report No. 07-10, page 7 (attached), prosecutors and judges in counties with Redirection, report that the exclusion of youth with prior adjudications for violent felonies has limited the referrals that they feel would be appropriate for the program, particularly youth involved in past domestic violence cases whose families might benefit from the program. Research on the program models has shown them to be effective with serious and violent offenders. The pilot would be established in a northern Florida judicial circuit and focus primarily on youth who have been adjudicated for domestic violence.
