Project Description:
The City of Tavares has constructed a reuse pump station at the WWTF site in anticipation of distributing reuse water to customers in the future. Plans include a request for inclusion to the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program for preconstruction activity. The City expects to develop a plan for the implementation of a reclaimed water distribution system to serve new development and excisting customers. The City requested $ 471,750 for preconstruction activity during 2006/2007. The City received $ 200,000. Any future funds would be applied toward construction. Tavares intends to fund this project through DEP , State Revolving Fund program. Request to be made for inclusion at the Jan. 2008 public hearing in Tallahassee. Quarterly cash needs to be in the range of $ 250,00 during preconstruction and $ 2, 500,000 over the construction phase of this project. The intent of the City is to to ensure the development of this reuse facility in order to preserve groundwater supply and quality in the Florida aquifer and Upper Ocklawaha basin; and to protect spring flows in the Wekiva River basin. The current treatment facility has a design capacity of 3.5 mgd and currently the city of Tavares treats 1.5 mgd on average. The city anticipates 100% of effluent from the treatment facility being used in a reuse appplication at some point in the future.
