The project will increase the access of frail elderly residents to critical services provided by Hope Hospice and Community Services through its contracts as Lead Agency for Hendry County with the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida using resources from the Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) and the federal Older Americans Act (OAA) and through its operations as the sole provider of hospice services to residents of Hendry County.

Project Description:
This project is to construct a Central Services facility to serve the elder population of eastern Hendry County to be located in Clewiston. The project cost is projected to be $1,500,000. The project is proposed to be completed in 2010. The building will encompass approximately 7,500 square feet to accommodate a multipurpose senior center providing services including congregate meals, staging for home delivered meal service, activity areas and office space to support Older American Act services and Florida Department of Elder Affairs services to frail elder residents of Hendry County. In addition, the facility will provide eight in-patient hospice beds and office space to support Hope�s Clewiston-based hospice home care team.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Approximately 500 seniors per year will be served from the center. Of this number about 150 will be classified as frail elderly persons, 100 projected hospice patients, and 250 as elders eligible for senior center services.
