Project Description:
The Nassau County Sheriffs Office, in conjunction with DCF, has begun the implementation of a mental health court designed to keep mentally ill people from being incarcerated versus receiving treatment. The current level of funding only allows for a minimal setup of staff and services. However, as the court increases its operation, and the county population continues to rise, the ability to serve those in need , and offer appropriate care options, will be come problematic. The request for $400,000 will be broken into twp parts. First, $200,000 will allocated for housing, transportation, medication , and housing issues. Second, $200,000 will be utilized to establish a mobile crisis team attached tot eh current respite crisis facility. The goal will be supplant or assist with respect to law enforcement calls related to mental health. Both approaches have well established best practice models available, with measurable outcomes \ bench marks.
