Krug Health Center - Pinellas

Requester: Darrell Lentz Organization: Sun Coast Hospital

Project Title: Krug Health Center - Pinellas Date Submitted 1/3/2008 9:15:33 AM

Sponsors: Jones

Statewide Interest:
The Krug Health Center and Sun Coast Family Care Center are a major source of primary care ambulatory services to the indigent, those without health insurance, and to the underserved population in Pinellas County. Over 63% of the patients seen at both clinics are from the indigent/Medicaid population, including MediKids and patients without health insurance. The clinics provide a sliding scale, discounted fee schedule for those without health insurance, based on income level and number of dependents. In the pediatric unit alone, 87% of the patients are beneficiaries of Medicaid, MediKids or pay a sliding scale discounted fee. Primary care services are provided to all age groups including; screening, diagnosis and treatment, prevention, education, counseling at risk behavior, prevention of teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, family planning and HIV counseling; community education with emphasis on chronic diseases; providing medical services for target populations such as pre-natal, well-baby and pediatric care. Interagency referrals will provide patient access to Pinellas County Health Department services including Healthy Start, WIC, Dental, Teen Pregnancy Prevention, and the Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program. Provision of these services lowers utilization of acute care services and minimizes hospitalizations, thereby decreasing health care costs to the state.
