Project Description: |
State funds are requested to construct the 9,000 square foot adult day care wing as the first phase of an intergenerational day care center in Hollywood, District 5, an ethnically-mixed neighborhood, to meet the urgent need for affordable adult day care services to minority and low-income frail elders. This center will provide individualized services and licensed day care for a minimum of 100 senior daily, to prevent premature and costly institutionalization into nursing care. The center will provide nutritional meals three times daily, a daily regimen of exercise, and cultural activities to keep the frail elderly socially active and independent for as long as possible. Seniors will also receive physical therapy when needed. These activities will be led by trained and skilled staff who are linguistically and ethnically sensitive and can orient activities to the Hispanic populations and the needs of the frail elderly in that District. |
