Project Description:
The Loxahatchee River is the southern most tributary of the Indian River Lagoon and includes the Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River, the first nationally designated Wild and Scenic River in Florida. The historic watershed of over 750 square miles has been reduced by canal, roads and other urban and agricultural infrastructure to approximately 210 square miles in southern Martin and northern Palm Beach counties. The Loxahatchee River Preservation Initiative (LRPI) includes several key projects critical to improving and preserving the long term health of the river. Urban stormwater improvements and restoration activities in the Northwest Fork in emphasized in the LRPI. This year the initiative includes 6 projects relating to stormwater, water quality and habitat restoration

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The LRPI will improve water quality in the Loxahatchee River by increasing the extent of natural areas in the Loxahatchee watershed, and provides for habitat restoration along the corridor adjacent to the Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River.
