Project Title: DACCO Residential Beds Date Submitted 12/27/2007 1:49:32 PM

Sponsors: Joyner

Statewide Interest:
DACCO provides award-winning alternatives to incarceration for non-violent substance abusers that would take costly space in our local jails and prisons. While in six month residential treatment, using a modified therapeutic community model, clients are provided treatment, GED, return to work, and aftercare. The cost for a day in jail is $75, DACCO provides treatment and supervision for $55 per day, a savings of $20 each day, saving $266,000 of incarceration funding.

Project Description:
Provide continued funding of DACCO's residential beds. The requested amount would fund up to approximately 65 clients in treatment during the year for a six month residential treatment program. Additional funds for transitional living at $25 per day as clients complete six months of Aftercare while living in a transitional living setting with supervision to make a successful transition to community living. These beds treat clients who would take local jail or state prison space at a cost of $20 a day more; saving the state a quarter of a million dollars, while returning them to work.
