This project is intended to fulfill the communitys need for free spay/neuter surgeries for pets of underprivileged residents of Miami-Dade County. It addresses the budget shortfall from Dade County which recently opted for termination of its free spay/neuter services. This program will produce measurable results which can be projected into long-term community-wide benefits. |

Project Description: |
In view of the current Miami-Dade County Animal Services budgetary cuts, the Humane Society of Greater Miami is committed to assume full responsibility for providing free spay/neuter services to the pets of underprivileged residents of Miami-Dade. A mobile unit facility is the most logical means for the successful delivery of such a program. According to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, it is commonly held that a significant proportion of the annual surplus pet population has its origins in low-income communities. The Humane Society of Greater Miamis free spay/neuter program requires that candidates file financial forms with proof of Federal Assistance (Food Stamps, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Aid for Families with Dependent Children, Jackson Clinic Healthcare). Free surgeries will be reserved for those receiving government assistance and who are able to prove it. |
