Nursing Home Facility Pneumococcal Vaccination Requirements

by Senator Grimsley

This summary is provided for information only and does not represent the opinion of any Senator, Senate Officer, or Senate Office.

Prepared by: Health Policy Committee (HP)

The bill (Chapter 2015-16, L.O.F.) removes the requirement that nursing homes vaccinate eligible new admissions with the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccination and instead allows eligible new admissions to be vaccinated with any pneumococcal vaccination that is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Each resident is required to be assessed for eligibility for vaccination within five business days after admission and, if indicated and not exempted, vaccinated within 60 days after admission.

If approved by the Governor, these provisions take effect July 1, 2015.

Vote: Senate 37-0; House 115-0
