GENERAL BILL by Commerce and Tourism

Notaries Public; Revising the application process and requirements for appointment as a notary public; requiring the Department of State to investigate complaints against a notary public and submit findings to the Executive Office of the Governor; clarifying that the Governor is authorized to suspend a notary’s commission; providing that a notary who notarizes the signature of a person who is not in the presence of the notary is subject to suspension; transferring certain responsibilities relating to the administration of notaries public from the Executive Office of the Governor to the Secretary of State, etc. APPROPRIATION: $1,350,000
