HB 837: Surrendered Newborn Infants

Surrendered Newborn Infants; Provides that if mother of newborn infant considers applying for eligibility for Medicaid program through hospital as qualified Medicaid provider, hospital must notify mother that act of applying for Medicaid will cause her personal information included on Medicaid application to be submitted to DCFS; prohibits hospital from seeking payment for such care from mother of surrendered newborn infant or from any individual financially responsible for mother of surrendered newborn infant; redefines "charity care" for disproportionate share program; provides that if patient has income that exceeds specified multiple of federal poverty level, care provided to patient does not qualify as charity care unless care is provided without compensation to surrendered newborn infant or person financially responsible for mother of surrendered newborn infant.
