The SRP was formalized in 1999 with the primary focus of reducing nitrates in the ground water, surface water, springs, and estuary.Through the use of voluntary incentive based programs, the focus has been on reducing nitrogen inputs by developing conservation plans outlining the use of Best Management Practices (BMP's).The goal is an eventual reduction in nitrates in the Swuannee River Basin and to optimize the use of nitrates by agriculture.
