This project addresses the need to have financial resources to countinue, and enhance, educational and technical assistance services that are being provided to individuals and organizations statewide in the area of preserving Africa assisted, in return, help to revitalize the livability of their communities and take a more active role in promoting statewide historic preservatio initiatives and tourism.Under the umbrella of the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network, a affiliate of the Southeast Alliance-National Trust for Historic Preservation Southern Office, and the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Conference, both of which were established by the requesting organization, the belief is that Florida's econmomy, environment, and people will be better served as a result of adequate operating funds to assist with these efforts and activities of statewide impact and interest.

Established in January 1996, the Riley Center/Museum is a program of the John G. Riley Foundation Inc.The foundation was incorporated in 1979 to acquire, restor, preserve and maintain properties of historical significance, including the premises located ate 419 East Jefferson Street, Tallahassee, Florida, and to provide historical programming.Since extablishment, the Riley Center/Museum, in addition to serving as a repsository for local and statewide African American historical information and artifacts, has responded to a growing interest to perserve the cultural heritage of Florida's African American population.It serves as a functional statewide clearing house, providing informatoin and assistance to individuals and advocates from across the state, relating to African American heritage preservation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

1. A greater recognition and increased documentaton of African American achievements and contributions to Florida's history. 2. Improved communities that provide enhanced quality of life, work, and learning. 3. Increased awareness of historical places as valued irreplaceable resouces that contribute to our economy through tourism and jobs, and 4.
