Project Description:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To provide college scholarships to economically disadvantaged at-risk students.STARS (Scholarship Tuition for At-Risk Students) has a 96% success rate.The $10 million state funds will be matched with $10 million from 45 private organizations to pruchase 3,500 scholarships.Students agree to stay drug-and-crime free to earn their scholarship.More than 12,500 scholarsips have been purchased through the Foundation with the help of state funds totalling more than $22 million and private matching dollars.Project STARS serves as a national model for reducing the dropout rate and for preparing students for college.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

Providing approximately 3,500 scholarships a year to economically disadvantaged at-risk students will positively change the lives of these students.Targeted students have a 60% chance of droppig out of high school by the 10th grade before STARS enters their lives, yet the program recipietns have a 96% college graduation rate.
