This project phase is especially appropriate for legislateve funding assistance.It endeavors to promote community preservation through economic revitaliztion and environmental repair of an important urban area at the backdoor of the Capitol Complex.The project provides system preservation by providing additional transportation opportunites- bicycle, pedestrian, transit and auto - on an existing corridor which links a larger system.

The purpose of this project is to create a gateway to the State Capitol Complex by revitalizing Gaines Street from Lake Bradford (State Road 371) to Apalachee Parkway (US Highway 27).A boulevard-scale development, this project would provide the preliminary infrastructure to create a sustainable, mixed land use district of residential, retail, and commercial, revitalizing the urban texture of the Capitol Center Planning Area and fostering opportunites for mulitple modes of transportaion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

 

 

 

 

 

As the "backporch" to the State of Florida Capitol Complex, expected outcomes related to this project include safety, economic development, and the movement of goods and services.The project promotes safety through the construction of a divided road way provideing improved vehicular and pedestrian safety.Economic development is advanced through the implementation of the Gaines Street Vitaliztion Plan in this underutilzed, centrally located corridor.Through the improvement of an important of an important link providing direct access from the downtown to the Tallahassee Regional Airport, this project serves to facilitate the movement of goods and services, providing multimedia linkages consistent with current FHWA and FTA guidelines.
