Project Description: |
The Proposed project will provide classrooms that will separate middle school students and high school students. The project will also allow Gulf County Schools to eliminate five portables currently in use. Forgiveness of a loan owed to the State would provide revenue to make this much need addition possible. In 1998, the Fl Legislature loaned the Gulf County School Board $1.9 million to offset the loss of taxes from Port St. Joe Paper Mill. The taxes have now been paid, and the School Boar must start paying back the loan. The first payment of $500,000 is due this year. The remaining $1.4 million would cover most of the cost of the proposed project if the loan is forgiven. Gulf County has passed a one-half cent sales tax which has been bonded for renovations at St. Joe Elementary School. Forgiveness of the loan seems to be the only option at this time to accomplish the proposed project |
