Project Description: |
The proposed project, Hollywood Boulevard Corridor Transportation Improvements, involves the total reconstruction of the remaining segments of Hollywood Boulevard (SR 820) to complete includes improvements to the existing roadway condition, specifically drainage, parking, bike path, transportation, pedestrian, landscaping and lighting improvements. The proposed improvements include protected left turn lanes, new mast arm traffic signalization, and pedestrian crossing improvements with pavers delinating pedestrian access to improve pedestrian safety. Drainage improvements include the installation of exfiltration trenches, which will mitigate the pollution caused by stormwater run off. Finally, the proposed landscape enhancements beautify the corridor with many plantings, including a variety of native, drought-tolerant, and non-evasive species of plants, consistent with the theme of "Paths of Sunshine." |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
This phase of the Hollywood Boulevard Corridor Reconstruction will provide the following benefits: * Revitalization of the City's main commercial and transportation corridor, which has been slated new industry development by the City of Hollywood. * Creation of a safe environment for pedestrians and cyclists to travel, while maintaining efficient traffic flow which is critical to the economic viability of the corridor. * Beautification of the corridor which encourages local businesses to invest and improve their adjacent properties. This is in keeping with similar enhancements along the commercial corridor that have fostered reinvestment and redevelopment along the already reconstructed areas of the corridor. The City's designs have won recognition as the best "On-Going Municipal Program" by the Florida Urban Forestry Council. * Improvements to the corridor which facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic from major highways and roadways running through the City of Hollywood. * Migration of pollution caused by stormwater run off through the installation of exfiltration trenches. |
