This initiative will contribute to the state's effort to reduce poverty by helping community residents become self-sufficient and increase their opportunity to access the labor market.� Through the economic development component, residents will improve the community environment and living conditions, and acquire the basic skills and knowledge to access the labor market and/or new job opportunities, while being provided institutional and social supports to facilitate the process.

Project Description:

This program will respond to critical community needs in 2 phases.� Phase one is a participatory exercise in coaltion building and building community institutions. Phase 2 will be implemented while pursuing capital enhancement, civic and citizenship classes.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

As a result of this initiative, residents will attend focus group meetings, participate in community organizations, attending training classes, find jobs, become self-sufficient, and beautify their communities by rehabilitating their homes.
