The Senior Wellness Program/Quality of Life is a comprehensive and innovative approach designed to increase the overall level of fitness ( body composition, strength& power, aerobic capacity, flexibility, balance & mobility) in older persons,thereby improvingtheir ability to maintain their optimal independence. This isachieved through a process of needs assessment andtesting; individualized exercise prescription and the implementation of this individualized exerciseprogram ( consisting of individual workouts and group classes) .This exercise program is part of a research project with the University of Miami , Florida International University and the Stein Gerontological Institute designed to show themost efficacious exercise to improve an elder person's fitness and health. It is the largest community based study ever undertaken in this field of study. The periodic retesting and resulting exercise prescription modification component of this program is truly innovative and will provide ground breaking research. The Program alsoprovides for thescreening of participants and the provision of case management services by licensed social workers where necessary.Additionally, there are twice monthly health related lectures, weekly cultural and social activities so as to provide a comprehensive approach for enhancement and improvement ofall aspects of the participants' Quality of Life.
