Project Description:
The proposed Advanced Technology High School will exist as a fully collaborative model of a community based partnership. It will be a District School centered in an alliance of community, business, community college and governmental partners. The new school will increase graduation rates and decrease dropout rates. This proposed school will articulate with our proposed Community Education Partnership School for dropout prevention (a previously established "Alternative Schools, Public/Private Partnership''Legislative Initiative). The intent of the Advanced Technology High School is to improve student performance by engaging students in unique classroom settings within a small learning community profile, using applied academic curriculum and incorporating varying learning modalities. The design of the school facility and curriculum will facilitate significant learning gains of all students, and especially students who learn more effectively through tactile learning experiences. Applied academic remediation in reading and mathematics will also be available to assist students. Academic and technical acceleration will be achieved through exciting and engaging approaches in vocational and technical learning laboratories and mentored cooperative work experiences. The technical coursework will directly articulate to the community college, so students can continue to higher education after graduation.
