| Project Description: |
| Hospitals in Pinellas County reported approximately $32 million in charity care for 2001. Part of this cost is attributable to inappropriate use of emergency room (ER) services. The County seeks to implement a pilot case management project. Four case managers would work with those hospitals with the greatest volume of services to the uninsured. Hospitals would provide case managers with the name of those individuals who are known to frequently use ER services. The case managers would make contact to obtain information regarding health care needs and work with them to ensure they receive available services and educate them on appropriate use of ER services. |
