Project Title: Regional Prevention Centers - Creating a System of Prevention Date Submitted 1/14/2003 4:53:05 PM

Sponsors: Lynn

Statewide Interest:
This project supports a statewide need as reflected in the Governor's goals of reducing drug use in the state by 50% by the year 2005. This project supports the recommendations made by the Florida Youth Initiative (a project of the Department of Children and Families) in their document "Florida Prevention System: A Vision for the Prevention Component of the Florida Drug Control Strategy." Specifically, the project will help to implement Recommendation 5: "ensure knowledgeable and skilled professional and volunteer workforce through the provision of training and technical assistance that will continuously build human resources and advance the state of the art in prevention," and Recommendation 6, "Increase the capacity of agencies, organizations, programs, and schools to provide prevention services through current information resources." Specifically, the Project will provide for the creation of regional prevention centers located throughout the state that will deliver training, technical assistance and information dissemination of science-based practices. The networking structure is patterned after the Federally funded Centers for the Application of Prevention Technology (CAPT) and the Texas Regional Prevention Centers.
