| This project supports the purpose of the Governor's Drug Control Strategy "to protect our citizens from the dangers posed by the illegal drugs" as well as the goals and objectives outlined in the Strategy. It focuses on one of the populations identified in the Strategy as being of highest risk by placing the "Treatment Emphasis on the Most Vulnerable". In fact, as stated on pages 4-26 and 27 of the Governor's Drug Control Strategy, "Drug courts must be realized as an integral part of stopping drug abuse. "The result of Drug Courts to date has been most impressive. Lower recidivism rates and greater cost savings illustrate the benefits of drug courts." The program produces results by reducing recidivism and incarceration among juveniles, decreasing utilization of deep end, high-cost residential treatment and commitment programs and increasing the participant's liklihood for successful rehabilitation. This type of program is supported at the National, State and Local levels, including the Office of Justice, SAMHSA, DCF's District 7, and the Brevard County Commission. |

| Project Description: |
| This project seeks to fund a Brevard County Juvenile Drug Court that will serve both male and female adolescents ranging in age from 13 to 17 years old. The program length will range from 4 to 6 months on average, but could extend up to approximately 9 months, depending on the progress of each individual participant. Program length will also be based on recommendations from treatment teams with the presiding judge making all final determinations regarding sanctions. The program will incorporate early, continuous and intensive judicially supervised treatment, mandatory periodic drug testing and the use of graduated sanctions and other rehabilitation services. |

| The Center for Drug-Free Living, Inc., takes the need for outcomes and accountability very seriously. Our experience providing Juvenile Drug Court services suggest the following outcomes can be expected among non-violent substance abusing juvenile offenders in Brevard County. 1) Reduced recidivism 2) Reduced substance abuse 3) Increased likelihood for successful rehabilitation. |
