Statewide Interest:
Completion of the project will accomplish a number of goals that includes protecting public health by reducing water pollutants and improving stormwater management. The Biscayne Bay SWIM Plan has identified Maule Lake as a target water body. Maule Lake is an estuarine lagoon with degraded water quality that provides head water to the lower reach of the Oleta River. This portion of the Oleta River passes through the wetlands of Oleta River State Recreation Area. Constructing an effective stormwater management system would significantly reduce polluntant loadings to these waters used heavily for recreation. Project Description:
The purpose of this project is to provide for the retrofitting of the Stormwater infrastructure in a portion of the Eastern Shores Basin located within the City of North Miami Beach. This will include designing and constructing improvements to the existing drainage systems by means of French drains, grease and oil interceptors, grit chambers , and the replacement/refurbishment of stormwater outfalls which discharge into the Maule Lake portion of North Biscayne Bay and Dumfoundling Bay.
