Services are targeted to Center clients and those high-risk persons who live in the surrounding south St. Petersburg area. The program provides health education workshops, training activities, risk assessments, HIV testing, health counseling, street outreach, condom distribution and referrals. The program coordinates with local churches, community, civic & social organizations, after school youth programs, and identified groups that serve the targeted high-risk groups. Benefits to the state are reduction of HIV infections and transmision rates and lowered health care costs.

Project Description:
The Health Education & Outreach Program provides a comprehensive community-based strategy to address HIV-AIDS and substance abuse - the twin epidemics of that continue to be a pervasive threat to public health. In keeping with the holistic approach for addressing the needs of the clients in the Center and surrounding community, the program has implemented a culturally appropriate health education and outreach program for high-risk persons. The specific priority is serving south St. Petersburg. The goal of the program will be to reduce the risk of becoming infected and transmitting the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), TB, Hepatitis and STDs.
