Project Description:
Land acquisition and construction of the lower Wares Creek flood control project, involving the widening, clearing, snagging, and dredging of approximately five miles of the Wares Creek urban stormwater drain through unincorporated Manatee County and the City of Bradenton with outfall to the Manatee River. The requested funding ($500,000) is the last of three annual installments committed by the Legislature to this project in 1999.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Environmental enhancement is expected following the removal of up to 150,000 cubic yards of depositional sediments and associated low level urban stormwater containments bound up in the sediments to be dredged. The Army Corps of Engineers estimates that the project will provide a $3,860,700 reduction in annual average flood damages in the project basin.
