Project Description:
River Region Human Services, Inc. proposes the continuation of $500,000 appropriated in 2002-2003 and the expansion of an additional $350,000 in funding for 2003-2004 to continue project that was specifically designed to provide care for women and youth that were at risk for SA, HIV/AIDS, MH, Domestic Violence and pregnancy. This program connected women and youth who were either systematically disconnected from services or were unaware of services that could improve their quality of life. Many of these females though eligible for entitlement programs never engaged because of myths surrounding possible negative results. Project WIN bridged this gap through intensive outreach and linked them into RRHS prevention, intervention or treatment services. With the federal funds given for this project it guaranteed immediate access to care in stabilized females that otherwise were abandoned. This project established trust with this population, and availed to over 650 females a complete continuum of care, provided child-watch for over 2,000 appointments, 2200 youth educated SA/HIV/AIDS, and 100 peer counselors conducting abstinence risk assessment and training. Without these funds these intense interventions cannot be continued.
