Project Description:
This project is intended to upgrade the existing antiquated (pre-1950) wastewater system in the City of Starke in order to free up system capacity for economic development; eliminate discharges to regional surface waters; and provide for a safe, functional system for the region. The overall project will include city-wide rehabilitation of existing sewer lines, transitioning from a secondary treatment system at the wastewater treatment facility to an advanced system and the expansion of the current effluent receiving capacity to include constructed wetlands. Specific aspects of this project for which this application is requesting funds are the cleaning and rehab of older portions of the sewer lines, installation of an alternative (non-gas) disinfectant system at the wastewater treatment facility and construction of manmade wetlands to replace portions of the existing sprayfield.
