Project Description:
The Southwest Florida Interdisciplinary Center for Positive Aging provides applied research, interdisciplinary training, technical assistance, clinical services and information dissemination for residents throughout Southwest Florida. The Center, now in its second year, is conducting applied research which focuses on helping older people and their caregivers to cope with change, treat disturbing behaviors, and stay as active and functional as possible in their homes. Projects and research programs in the community that have been designed and tested in the past two years need state funding to continue and expand and enable the Center to become a significant research and training facility for the region. By 2020, over 40% of the area's population will be 55 years and older. The Center's programs will provide cost effective programs and services to maintain people in their homes enabling them to age positively in their own environments enhancing their overall quality of life and at the same time saving the state money.
