Project Description: |
The project is an integral companion to the $16,000,000 Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) Cedar Hammock (Wares Creek) Flood Control Channel improvements projects, in which the ACOE will dredge and widen Wares Creek for flood control. By rule, the ACOE will not participate in the replacement of the City's bridges or improvements to the City's critical part of the overall project. The project involves:
1) Replacement of undersized bridges that cross Wares Creek within the City of Bradenton with structures that provide improved water flow characteristics. The purpose of the bridge replacements is to reduce the incidences of flooding Master Sewage Pump Station 14 and private residences. The bridges to be replaced are 9th Avenue bridge, 12th Avenue bridge, 14th Avenue bridge and 17th Avenue bridge. 2) Improvements to existing stormwater facilities that drain into Wares Creek in the vicinity of the bridges to enhance stormwater treatment and conveyance. The project will cost $4,480,000 and will be constructed over a four year period. |
