Project Description: |
This land is the southern 1/2 of Section 24 and the northern 1/2 of section 23 in Range 15 W and Township 1S. It is adjacent to planned development in the Lake Merial area and immediately south of development on Crooked Lane. Part of the project would be to construct a steptage treatment facility for treatment of septage pumped from septic tands within the City of Lynn Haven. Sice the closing of the County's Cherry Street Wastewater Treatemtn plant over two years ago, septage haulers must ransport spetage to facilities in either Port St. Joe or Pensacola for processing. This extended transportation has increased the cost to the homeowner and has encouraged illegal dumping of septage into the wastewater stream, affecting the performance of municipal wastewater treatment plants. The second part of the project would be to construct an expandable package wastewater treatment plant at the same location. All residdences in this part of the Sand Hills are currently on septic tanks. The numberous lakes and ponds in this area of Northern Bay County are part of the recharge for Deer Point Preservoir. Deer Oint Reservoir is the raw water source for potable water for well over 100,000 residents of Bay County. Approximately 12% of potable water provided to the citizens of Lynn Haven is treated surface water fro Deer Point Reservoir |

Is this a water project as described in Chapter 2002-291, Laws of Florida? |
No |
|
Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
there are approximately 470 homes in Lynn Haven that are on septic tanks. The average house hold septic tank, when pumped produces between 900 and 1050 gallons of septage. The pumping cycle is between 3 and 5 years. the cost to the homeowner to pump, haul and process is $240. with a facility located 11 miles from the city versus 41 miles to Port St. Joe, the decreased hauling costs would easily be lowered by $40. |
