Project Description:
Rimes Early Education Center will be the first of its kind and will serve the community in 2 ways. First, the center will serve as a Pre-K education center for all 4 year old children in Lake and Sumter Counties. Second, it will be a training center for childcare workers seeking to become school teachers at the K-12 level of Education. The center will be regional in scope and will be operated through the Lake County School Readiness Coalition in conjunction with several community partners, incl. the Lake and Sumter County School System, Lake Sumter Community College , Lake County Health Department, Citizens Commission for Children, Lake County Cultural Affairs and LifeStream Behavioral Center. This center is based on the philosophy of community partnerships and will use these partnerships to be a self-sufficient educational and training center. The center is also a second phase of a two part program that utilizes a scholarship program at the community college level to educate future teachers on the developmental stages of a child's growth. The intent is to train future teachers,on not just the K-12 aspect of education, but the developmental stages of a child's education form 0-5 years as stipulated in school readiness.
