Project Description: |
The project is an integral companion to the $16,000,000 Army Corp of Engineers (ACOE) Cedar Hammock (Wares Creek) Flood Control Channel improvements projects, in which the ACOE will dredge and widen Wares Creek for flood control. By rule, the ACOE will not participate in the replacement of the city's bridges or improvements to the city's existing stormwater systems. The city is responsible for this critical part of the overall project. The project involves:
1. Replacement of undersized bridges that cross Wares Creek within the City of Bradenton with structures that provide improved water flow characteristics. Bridge replacements will reduce the flooding of Master Sewage Pump Station 14 and private residences. The bridges to be replaced are the 9th Avenue West Bridge, the 12th Avenue West Bridge, the 14th Avenue West Bridge, and the 17th Avenue West Bridge.
2. Improvements to exisiting stormwater facilities that drain into Wares Creek in the vicinity of the bridges to enhance stormwater treatment and conveyance. The project will cost $4,480,000 and will be constructed over a four-year period. This project has been submitted to DEP as an "HB 851" project, under Chapter 2002.291 of Florida Statutes. |
