| This project will provide support for the implemetation of a municipal wastewater treatment. The reduction in cesspits and increase in households connected to an approved and functioning wasterwater treatment system is intended to reduce sewage pollution and produce measurable results in improving nearshore water quality in the Florida Keys. Recent work has determined that wastewater from poorly functional onsite treatment systems rapidly enters surface waters of canals (Paul, et al, 1995,1997) and may be a human health risk due to the viral contamination (Rose et al, in press). |
