Project Description:
Communities In Schools of Putnam County, Inc. champions the connection of needed community resources with schools in order to help young people learn, stay in school, and prepare for life. In order to accomplish this mission CIS believes that ever child deserves: a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult; a safe place to learn and grow; a marketable skill to use upon graduation; a chance to give bck to the community and peers; a healthy start and a healthy future. In order to accomplish these goals, CIS has implemented many programs that help Putnam County's children. In 2003 CIS served a total of 2,113 students with 812 students being served on a regular, sustained basis. CIS programs include, but are not limited to: AmeriCorps Putnam READS!, Foster Grandparents program, Families Enjoying Literacy Together, Tribute to Kids, Take Stock in Children, Sight for Students, Governor's Mentoring Initiative, AmeriCorps Promise Fellow, Make a Difference Day Fall Fest, Governor's Family Literacy Program, Putnam Regional Science & Engineering Fair.
