Project Description: |
This proposal requests $450,000 for non-recurring funds (program will continue by grants, but it must be in operation for 1 year to be eligible for grant funds) to establish a program for individuals who are confined to jail and need therapeutic assistance. This program will provide mental health and substance abuse services to inmates and their families. Many of these individuals have not created violent crimes, however, their crimes are usually related to alcohol or drugs. The recidivism is very high among this population and families receive little assistance. This program will address issues for the entire family and will also work with individuals who have lost their children to the Child Welfare System because of their criminal behavior and/or substance abuse history. Currently, there are no services being provided for this population. Thus, requested funds will be used for hiring therapists and jail personnel to provide direct services. This program will also connect with the current drug court program. |
